Martinsried Underground Station

Visualisations for a competition entry by @luxophil.lighting for the space-creating extension of the Martinsried underground station.

As an underground station at the research location Campus Martinsried, we focused on the theme of biomedicine and cell structures. The platform as a maximally efficient "laboratory level" with a view of the rear track façade is designed as Voronoi, which is also acoustically effective. All decorative cladding without function was dispensed with in the interest of conserving resources. The raw ceiling and floor were designed with a high degree of reflection in order to achieve the required illuminance levels and uniformity with low power requirements. The shape of the skylights planned in the engineering building was designed according to the Voronoi structure, and the effect lighting level also imitates daylight at dusk and at night in terms of its light colour with the best colour rendering qualities. In this way, four (bio)light islands are created on the platform, which repeatedly interrupt the standardised, uniformed lighting environment and the retrofit light sources required, and provide lively accents.
